Mount Olive Baptist Church was constituted on its current piece of land in 1892 with 14 charter members. During the depression, when Mount Olive could not give their annual offering to the Orphans of Arcadia, now the One More Child, The Florida Baptist Children's Home, they gave what they had. Being a farming community, they gave shelled corn for corn meal and grits, syrup from sugar cane, sweet potatoes, cured meat, lard, canned fruits and vegetables, pickles, jams and jellies.
Just like the past, we are a church that cares about our community. We are a congregation seeking to follow Christ's guidance. We strive to understand what God's word teaches, and apply its truths to our lives by living out God's commands. We are a church that is “growing as a family of believers, surrendered to and empowered by Jesus Christ to teach everyone the life-changing message of the Gospel.”
A warm greeting
You are welcome! We would be honored to have you join us for one of our worship services. Come as you are and you will be loved. We would love the opportunity to get to know you.
Fellowship
Come and fellowship with us! Here at Mount Olive, we have tons of fellowship opportunities. There are Sunday school classes for everyone; no matter what stage of life you are in. We also have great opportunities for you to join us in corporate worship. There are Bible studies/life groups where you can get plugged in. These Bible studies have a focus on fellowship and discipleship.
Worship
At Mount Olive, worship means acknowledging who God is (holy and good) and who we are (not so holy and not so good) in relation to him. This means admitting and confessing our sin, and accepting God's forgiveness. In worship, we speak directly to God about what's on our minds (our needs and the needs of others) and what's on God's mind (His desire for love and justice and redemption in the world). This means reading the Scripture. It also means listening for what God is saying to you through the music, the sermon and everything that happens in worship. Worship doesn't end when the service is over. Worship means we leave the service so aware of God's greatness that we find ways to obey and honor and serve him throughout the week. You can find information on our worship services here.
Truth
At Mount Olive, we are brought together by our belief in Jesus Christ and our commitment to walk with Him. We desire to exalt the name of Christ and lead others to accept the saving grace of Jesus. We want to be part of a community that is empowered by God to make Him know to everyone around us. We believe this is accomplished through the truth of God's word.
